The Columbus Wizards secured a 119–116 victory over the Grove City Whitetails in the opening game of the Cap City Championship, earning an early advantage in the season series.
In a matchup defined by efficiency and physical play, both teams shot over 50 percent from the field, with neither side able to create significant separation throughout much of the contest. Columbus ultimately capitalized on second-chance opportunities and key defensive possessions late to secure the win.
The Wizards shot 51.5 percent (51-of-99) from the field and generated 15 offensive rebounds, creating additional scoring opportunities in a tightly contested game. Grove City countered with 53.5 percent shooting (46-of-86) behind a balanced offensive performance.
Michael Davenport led Columbus with 24 points on 11-of-21 shooting while adding five steals, impacting the game on both ends.
Jaiveon Eaves contributed 21 points, while Jay Farrow added 19 points and eight rebounds, providing consistent production throughout the night.
Josiah Fulcher recorded 14 points and seven rebounds, and Khiry Shelton added 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting, giving the Wizards efficient scoring in the frontcourt.
For Grove City, Cam Sembly delivered a strong performance with 24 points and 10 rebounds on 11-of-14 shooting, anchoring the Whitetails’ offense.
Corry Long added 21 points, while Elias Osbourne contributed 15 points and five assists, helping facilitate the offense.
Phillip Bledsoe II finished with 15 points, marking his first matchup against his former team after signing with the Whitetails during the offseason. His presence added another layer to an already competitive rivalry matchup.
Additional scoring came from Virgil Lackey III (14 points), while Elijah Fabyan provided a key spark off the bench with 11 points, including three three-pointers.
As a team, Grove City recorded 20 assists and applied defensive pressure throughout, forcing 23 turnovers. However, Columbus’ ability to generate second-chance opportunities and execute in late-game situations proved to be the difference.
With the win, the Columbus Wizards take a 1–0 lead in the Cap City Championship series.
The teams are scheduled to meet multiple times throughout the season, with the rivalry expected to play a significant role in the standings moving forward.
