The atmosphere inside The Rike Center on Sunday night felt bigger than basketball as the Columbus Wizards hosted the Ohio Valor in a special Mother’s Day showcase in front of an energized crowd in Westerville. Originally scheduled to face the Lake County Legacy, the Wizards were forced to pivot after Lake County was unable to make the trip to Columbus. Stepping in on short notice was the Ohio Valor, a team made up of local first responders from around Central Ohio. While the game did not count toward the official TBL standings, the night still carried meaning as the organization honored mothers in attendance and recognized the service of the Valor players off the court.

The opening half turned into an entertaining offensive battle with Ohio Valor refusing to back down despite the late notice. Columbus pushed the pace early, but Valor answered with energy and toughness, keeping the game competitive throughout the first two quarters. The Wizards carried a 71-62 lead into halftime, but the game still very much felt within reach heading into the second half.

That changed quickly coming out of the locker room.

The Wizards erupted for 52 points in the third quarter and completely broke the game open behind a barrage of transition buckets, hot shooting, and relentless tempo. Columbus looked fully in rhythm offensively as the lead ballooned in front of a loud home crowd that fed off the momentum throughout the second half.

Jay Farrow once again led the charge offensively, pouring in a game-high 39 points while attacking the basket and knocking down shots from all over the floor. Mat Bingaya caught fire from deep and added 37 points of his own in one of his best offensive performances of the season. Josiah Fulcher added 27 points while continuing to impact the game in multiple areas, and Michael Davenport chipped in 22 points while providing veteran leadership throughout the night.

The Wizards also received valuable minutes and contributions from RJ Sneed, Melieck Evans, and Jalen Robinson as Columbus closed out the night with a 161-121 victory.

Halftime also brought a unique interactive moment for the younger fans in attendance as Rival Status took over the floor with their innovative push-up fitness challenge. Kids were invited onto the court to compete in the challenge, which tests participants to work their way around a clock by completing a push-up rep for every number. The goal is simple but demanding: complete the full circuit within two minutes without stopping to officially achieve “Rival Status.” The interactive challenge brought energy to the building and fit perfectly with the family atmosphere of the night.

Following the game, the Wizards organization made sure to publicly thank and recognize the Ohio Valor players and first responders who stepped in to make the event possible, including Nick Zepeda, Nrique Love, Matt Tschirner, Nick Everett, Dillon Adkins, Even Williams, Seth Gamby, and Turrell Morris. The night also included a special moment celebrating Even Williams’ 40th birthday at center court.

The Wizards now turn their attention back to TBL play Thursday night as they host the rival Grove City Whitetails in the latest installment of the Cap City Championship rivalry. Columbus currently holds a 2-1 edge in the season series and enters the matchup at 11-9 on the season, while Grove City comes in at 4-13. With the championship belt once again on the line and playoff positioning becoming increasingly important, Thursday night’s showdown at The Rike Center is expected to bring another playoff-like atmosphere to Westerville.
